Renishaw Extends FORTiS™ Encoder Scale Range to 4.24 MetersRetryClaude can make mistakes. Please double-check responses.
Renishaw has expanded the FORTiS™ encoder scale range with longer lengths reaching up to 4.24 meters. The extended FORTiS™ enclosed encoder linear scales support large machine tools used in various applications including mould and die production for large casting operations, vertical turning lathes, and gantry-type machines.
The longer scales serve the automotive industry's giga casting processes where large aluminum components are manufactured using high-pressure die casting. These components replace traditionally welded assemblies of multiple steel parts. The production of dies for these applications requires precise machining with stable processes.
For vertical turning lathes handling workpieces several meters in diameter, the longer FORTiS™ scales provide position feedback for coordinated motion across multiple axes. Dual ram systems benefit as both turning heads can use the same scale, simplifying machine design and improving machining results.
The FORTiS™ design incorporates Renishaw's RESOLUTE™ technology with protection against liquids and debris through an extruded enclosure, interlocking lip seals, and sealed end caps. The readhead connects to the optical unit via a blade moving through DuraSeal™ lip seals without mechanical contact with the scale.
Two versions are available: FORTiS-S™ with measuring lengths from 140 mm to 4240 mm for standard installations, and FORTiS-N™ with lengths from 70 mm to 2040 mm for confined spaces. The FORTiS-S™ mounts directly to machined surfaces using flexure holes, while FORTiS-N™ can mount via end cap holes or a mounting spar.
Renishaw manufactures these CE-approved encoders under ISO 9001:2015 certified processes with global support services.
